Ahmed SolimanBrand & communication design

I build brands from the word up

The strategy, the copy, and the design — and then I ship them.

A decade in communications

I’m a communications professional with experience spanning journalism, association communications, ed-tech, and federal healthcare. I turn complicated material into accessible stories, reports, and content.

One person, four jobs

Most brands split this work across a strategist, a writer, a designer, and a web developer. I do all four, so what a brand promises, what it says, how it looks, and how it ships never drift apart.

  • Strategy

    What it stands for

Positioning, naming, audience, and the one sentence everything else has to keep.

  • Words

    What it says

Site and app copy, UX writing, essays, and proposals.

  • Design

    How it looks

Identity, websites, product interfaces, print, and presentation systems.

  • Build

    How it ships

Three apps and a website I built and launched myself: SwiftUI, Next.js, and Webflow.

Writing

A report and news features for the VA, a research deck on AI and retraining, Commonwealth’s website and case studies, and federal proposals.

2024 State of Innovation report

Report cover: VHA 2024 State of Innovation Report, From Promise to Progress: Evolving Veteran Healthcare, with five portraits Contents page: four sections, from expanding access to care to healthcare on the horizon, then an index of innovative care Article opener: PACT PT Makes Same-day Physical Therapy a Reality for Veterans

An 84-page report written for Veterans: stories of VA innovation programs and the needs they meet, with an index of where to find each one. I helped write and develop it, and helped with the research and interviews behind it.

For the VHA Office of Healthcare Innovation and Learning, which publishes the report every year.

Retrain toward AI, or away from it?

A review of new research on workers in AI-exposed jobs: whether retraining pays, and whether it pays more to move toward AI or away from it. It closes with three moves for workforce agencies, a product concept for job-center counselors, and a pilot plan.

  • Presentation
  • 15 slides
  • Product concept

The findings come from Hyman, Lahey, Ni & Pilossoph, NBER Working Paper 34174, which draws on federal job-training records from 2012 to 2024. Scroll through the slides below, tap one to see it full size, or open the PDF.

Features · VA News · 2024–25

VA News features

Feature stories I ghostwrote for the VA’s national health innovation centers, published on VA News.

Proposals · Federal

RFI and RFP responses

Research, structure, and writing for federal requests for information and requests for proposals, with every response mapped to each requirement in the notice.

With subject-matter experts and teaming partners, through rounds of review before each submission.

A research deck for clinicians, brochures, and a presentation system for a VA rollout.

Exercise, by the evidence

A thirty-minute review of recent exercise research for clinicians. It moves from the brain and mood to immunity, muscle, and bone, and ends on the molecular signals between organs.

Site implementation updates

Slide: meeting focus, with two outcomes and a five-part agenda Slide: site readiness by workstream, a matrix with a status legend Slide: priority workstream, with progress, constraint, and next milestone Slide: implementation roadmap with a current-month marker

A monthly deck system for a five-site VA rollout: a status legend, a readiness matrix, a roadmap, and an action tracker. The status labels still read when the deck is printed in grayscale.

Brands, websites and apps

Three products I built, from the strategy to the code.

iOS app · Live on the App Store

Steady

An iOS app for ADHD follow-through. Two people share one list, so the person doing the work has someone in their corner all day.

  • iOS app
  • Brand identity
  • Website
  • Copywriting
Strategy
positioning, naming, the two-role model
Words
site, App Store, and in-app copy; essays
Design
identity, iOS interface, App Store art, website
Build
SwiftUI and Firebase, shipped solo

Worth noting. The names carry the strategy. “Explorer” and “Anchor” tell both people the deal — support, not supervision — before anyone taps a button.

Steady app icon
  • aegean blue
  • dried sage
  • warm limestone
  • warm coral
A muted, warm palette with Mediterranean names, built to feel calm rather than urgent.
The steadypair.com homepage: “ADHD is easier with a Buddy,” beside an iPhone showing a shared task list
App Store screen: Every Explorer needs an Anchor App Store screen: Drop a task onto your shared board App Store screen: Send the right kind of Nudge App Store screen: You’re not doing this alone
The Steady site explains the two roles: the Explorer, the one with the list, and the Anchor, the one in their corner

Web app · In private pilot

Handit

The handit.to homepage: “Every ask gets an owner,” surrounded by the stray requests it catches
Handit’s live demo: type an ask the way you’d say it, and it lands with an owner and a due date

A home for the small asks that get lost at work. Every ask gets one owner, one status, and a clean close.

  • Web app
  • Brand identity
  • Website
  • Copywriting
Strategy
positioning, product rules, pilot offer
Words
site copy, manifesto, sales copy, pitch deck
Design
identity, web app, Slack and Teams flows, website
Build
web app plus Slack, Teams, email, and browser capture

Worth noting. The headline is the product spec. “Every ask gets an owner” is five words, and every feature has to keep that promise.

Web app and website · Working prototype

Proposal Hall

The Proposal Hall website: “Every answer shows its source,” above the Analyze screen checked against a VA solicitation
Analyze: a VA solicitation checked against the source, with verified facts and flagged conflicts
Analyze
Pursuits: a VA opportunity tracked from analysis to draft
Pursuits
Build response: the proposal structure, volume by volume
Build response
Production plan: review gates and a schedule built back from the deadline
Production plan

An evidence-first workspace for government proposals. It reads a solicitation, cites every requirement back to the source, and builds the response against a library of past work.

  • Product design
  • Brand identity
  • Website
  • Build
  • Copywriting
Strategy
positioning, workflow from real proposal practice
Words
naming, interface copy, website copy, the demo walkthrough
Design
product interface, identity, and website
Build
Next.js app, AI extraction with citations, website

Worth noting. I write real RFI and RFP responses, so the tool follows how proposals actually get made, not how a generic document editor thinks they do.
